Don't Get Hooked! How to Report Phishing Attempts in Outlook
We are excited to introduce a new tool to help keep you from getting hooked by a phishing attempt! This tool, available in Outlook, empowers all of us to contribute to the security of Commonwealth by promptly reporting any suspicious emails we encounter.
Here are steps on how to use the reporting tool:
Identify a Suspicious Email: If you receive an email that seems suspicious, containing elements such as unexpected attachments, links to unknown websites, or requests for sensitive information, it may be a phishing attempt.
Select the Message: Make sure the suspicious email is selected within Outlook.
Report the Message: Depending on the version of Outlook you are using, you will find two options to report the message:
For some versions, click on the "Report Message" icon represented by an envelope.
For other versions, click on the "Report" button with the red shield icon.
Choose Phishing Option: After clicking the appropriate reporting option, select the "Phishing" option from the menu that appears.
Confirmation and Removal: Once you've reported the message as phishing, Outlook will remove it from your inbox.
And that’s it! Reporting suspicious emails not only keeps us safer, but it also helps improve Microsoft’s email filters, making it harder for cybercriminals to target us. Watch the helpful video tutorial below:
